In the past several years, New York has seen several world-class night markets popping up for enjoying those warm summer evenings. Night markets typically run from the early evening until after dark, and are a great place to pick up a meal from some of the city’s best street vendors, find some beautiful artisan pieces, or enjoy a performance or games with friends and family. We’ve rounded up some of our favorites here.
Every Saturday from 5:00 pm until midnight
New York Hall of Science, Flushing Meadows Corona Park
This family-friendly night market takes place at the New York Hall of Science and has plenty of room for kids to run around and adults to peruse the vendors and enjoy performances at the stage area. Food, drink, and art vendors from all different cultures are in abundance. You can enjoy Persian stew, Colombian arepas, and even Tibetan cuisine in the same meal if you choose! Parking is very limited, and the organizers recommend taking mass transit. Directions are kindly provided on the market’s website. This is one you don’t want to miss, so plan accordingly!
Fridays throughout the summer
The largest food market in the Bronx, Westchester County, and Uptown Manhattan combined. Each market hosts over 40 food, drink, and merchandise vendors who provide some of the most creative food and artisan items. The market is a celebration of diversity, with vendors coming from all different cultures for a multiethnic party atmosphere. And they must be doing something right--the market’s debut season attracted over 80,000 people! Admission is free, but the organizers advise arriving early to avoid disappointment when vendors sell out. We can vouch for that!
Every other Friday starting at 6 pm
307 Kent Ave, Brooklyn
This night market is held at Villain, Vice's newest event space! General admission is free, and you can walk around at your leisure to enjoy music and shop for food, drinks, and other items from various vendors. Tickets are also available for purchase and get you a limited number of free drinks, a discount on food and merchandise, access to express lines, and reserved seating to enjoy your goodies. Make sure you RSVP for this one as space is limited and it’s sure to be a hot ticket!
